Questions
What is Electrology?
Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal. Using state-of-the-art technology, a tiny amount of electricity is applied to the root of the hair. This process destroys the hair follicle making it impossible for the hair to regrow.
How does Electrolysis work?
An electrologist inserts a very fine probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle alongside the hair shaft. A tiny amount of electrical current is then applied to destroy the hair follicle.
What is the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal?
While both are highy saught after, only electrolysis is permanent. Laser technology damages the hair follicle resulting in slower, finer regrowth. After multiple treatments, the regrowth is slow enough to only require a treatment every 6 months to a year (longer in some cases). However, if treatment isn’t continued, the hair will eventually grow normally once again.
Current laser technology works by differentiating the pigment in the hair from the pigment in the surrounding skin. Therefore, it will not work for all skin types nor will it work for white or very light blonde hair. Electrolysis depends on heat and chemical reactions so it works for all skin and hair types.
What is the cost?
Dare to Bare charges $80/hr. However, the client can choose to do quarter hour increments at $20/q or multiple hours in one day.
How many treatments wil I need?
This will vary from person to person. Factors such as the quantity and structure of hair presented, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medication and stress influence the treatment for each individual.
A treatment session may last from 30 minutes to several hours, and each hair needs to be treated from 4 – 30 seconds in order to kill the follicle.
One must also consider the hair growth cycle. Not all hair follicles produce a hair at the same time. Even if all the hair from a certain area is removed during a session, there will be new growth from the follicles that were not producing hair at the time of treatment.
Can hair be removed from any place on the body?
Yes.
Does Electrolysis hurt?
It isn’t without discomfort, but this is going to vary from client to client. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, and different parts of the body may be more sensitive than others.
There are things that can be done to lessen the pain before a session:
*Take your preferred pain reliever 15 – 20 minutes before your appointment.
*Drink plenty of water before your appointment.
*Limit caffeine consumption the day of your appointment. Caffeine heightens sensations.
I also use numbing cream on the area, but if these preparations are still not enough, you may consult your doctor for other aid.
Does Electrolysis leave marks on the skin?
When done properly, electrolysis will not leave permanent marks on normal skin. If your skin is prone to discoloration or keloids, be sure to discuss this with me.
The most common side effects are redness and bumps which will go away within a few hours. Less common, but not abnormal, are small bruises or white-heads.
Can pregnant women have Electrolysis?
Pregnant women can have electrolysis until their third trimester.
Can hair be removed from moles?
Hair should only be removed from moles with a written consent from a physician.
